A kitchen renovation is rarely just new cupboards. Moving the sink, opening up a wall, adding a scullery, upgrading old wiring or getting estate approval all turn a kitchen into a building project. That’s where JehCon Group comes in. We are a registered building contractor doing kitchen renovations in Ballito, Umhlanga, Durban North, Salt Rock and the North Coast estates, and we manage the whole job under one contract.

We were voted Best Building & Construction Company in the Best of Ballito 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards, and we are registered with the NHBRC, MBA and CIDB, work under JBCC contracts and carry Public Liability Insurance.

Why Use a Building Contractor for Your Kitchen?

A kitchen company supplies and fits cabinetry. Everything around it, including walls, windows, plumbing, electrical and gas work, ceilings, lighting, tiling and flooring, is building work. With a separate company for each trade, you end up managing the gaps between them. With JehCon you get:

  • One contract and one programme covering every trade, including your chosen cabinetry and stone suppliers
  • A detailed Bill of Quantities before work starts, so the price is clear and fair
  • Structural know-how for open-plan conversions, with engineer-designed beams and approved plans
  • Certificates of Compliance for new electrical and gas work
  • Estate experience with approvals, contractor registration, access and working hours

Coordination: Getting the Plumbing and Electrical Points Right

This is where most kitchen renovations go wrong. The plumbing and electrical points are roughed in early, often before the kitchen design is final, and then the cabinetry arrives and doesn’t line up. A plug ends up behind the fridge, the sink waste sits under a drawer, the hob has no gas point or isolator where it needs one, the extractor has nowhere to duct, or there are no services in the floor for the island. Fixing it means chasing freshly plastered walls, lifting new tiles and paying twice.

A good builder prevents this by coordinating the kitchen designer, electrician and plumber from the start, so everything fits and sits in the right place. On every JehCon kitchen we:

  • Work from the final kitchen design and the appliance specification sheets, not a rough sketch
  • Set out every point on site (water, waste, gas, plugs, isolators, lighting and data) and mark it on the walls and floor
  • Walk the set-out with the designer, electrician and plumber before any walls are chased or closed up
  • Plan the island services through the floor before the screed or tiles go down
  • Check every point again before plastering and tiling, and once more before the cabinets are installed

The result is a kitchen where the sink, dishwasher, hob, oven, extractor, fridge and under-cabinet lighting all land exactly where they should, with neat finishes, compliant installations and no expensive rework.

Where We Renovate Kitchens

Ballito, Salt Rock & Zinkwazi

Our office is in Ballito, at Laguna Seca on Lee Barns Boulevard, so kitchen renovations in Ballito, Salt Rock and further up the coast to Zinkwazi are right on our doorstep. Many homes here are holiday or coastal homes where salt air is hard on hardware and board, so we specify marine-grade fittings and moisture-resistant carcasses as standard. Structural work falls under KwaDukuza Municipality.

Umhlanga, Umdloti & Durban North

In Umhlanga and Umdloti, kitchens are often in apartments, complexes or estate homes where access, parking and body corporate or HOA rules shape the programme. Durban North has many older freehold homes, where a kitchen renovation is a good time to replace ageing plumbing and wiring and open the kitchen to the garden. Structural work here falls under eThekwini Municipality.

Westville, Hillcrest & Pinetown

Inland, larger plots and established family homes often mean bigger kitchens, sculleries and a kitchen renovation combined with alterations and additions. We bring the same BOQ-backed pricing and project management to the Upper Highway and the western suburbs.

North Coast & Durban Estates

Much of our work is inside estates, where approvals, contractor registration and site rules add extra steps. We handle those for you and work across:

  • Zimbali
  • Zimbali Lakes
  • Simbithi Eco Estate
  • Salta
  • Prince's Grant Golf Estate
  • Zululami Coastal Estate
  • Hawaan Forest Estate
  • Sheffield Beach Estate
  • Palm Lakes
  • Mount Edgecombe
  • Gold Coast Estate
  • Fairview Estate

Frequently Asked Questions

Which areas do you do kitchen renovations in?

We renovate kitchens across Ballito, Salt Rock, Zinkwazi, Umhlanga, Umdloti, Durban North, Westville, Hillcrest and Pinetown, and inside North Coast estates including Zimbali, Zimbali Lakes, Simbithi, Salta, Zululami, Prince's Grant, Fairview, Hawaan Forest and Sheffield Beach.

What does a kitchen renovation cost on the North Coast?

As an indicative 2026 guide, a kitchen refresh on the existing layout starts from around R60,000 to R120,000, a full replacement typically costs R120,000 to R250,000, and a premium or structural renovation commonly runs from R250,000 to R600,000 and more. We price every kitchen from a detailed Bill of Quantities, so you know the cost before work starts.

Do you supply the kitchen cupboards?

We work with trusted North Coast kitchen manufacturers and stone suppliers, or we can coordinate the supplier you have already chosen. Either way, we manage the whole project, so the cabinetry, building work, plumbing, electrics and finishes come together on one programme.

How long does a kitchen renovation take?

A like-for-like replacement usually takes 3 to 5 weeks on site once cabinetry is manufactured. A full renovation with layout changes typically needs 8 to 12 weeks from design sign-off to handover, including approvals, manufacturing and stone templating.

Who coordinates the plumbing and electrical points in a kitchen renovation?

We do. Before any walls are chased or tiled, we set out every water supply, waste, gas and electrical point from the final kitchen design and the appliance specifications, and walk it with the kitchen designer, electrician and plumber. That way the sink, dishwasher, hob, oven, extractor, fridge and island services all land exactly where the cabinetry needs them.

Can you handle estate approvals for my kitchen renovation?

Yes. We prepare and submit what your estate needs for any exterior or structural change, register our team for site access, and plan the work around estate working hours, deliveries and holiday building restrictions.

Are you registered and insured?

Yes. JehCon Group is registered with the NHBRC, the Master Builders Association (MBA) and the CIDB, works under JBCC contracts and carries Public Liability Insurance. We were voted Best Building & Construction Company in the Best of Ballito 2026 Readers' Choice Awards.
